This brief circular stroll follows the path of the treetop walk, beginning at the Walled Garden. It offers an accessible route suitable for all family members and is also pushchair and wheelchair friendly.

The River Walk at Avondale is the lengthiest and most demanding trail, featuring steep descents and ascents, so it’s advisable to wear sturdy footwear. Nevertheless, your determination will be handsomely rewarded with breathtaking views of the river and a unique perspective of Lovers Lookout from a lower vantage point.

This is a straightforward route, commencing at Rathdrum railway station and meandering through the woodlands to Avondale House, where it passes beneath a viaduct. This path might have been traversed by Parnell during his frequent travels. Residents often opt for a circular route, originating in Rathdrum and tracing the Railway Walk’s path. They return to Rathdrum from Avondale House, following the footpath along the road.

During this walk, you’ll journey through the remaining experimental tree plots from the early 20th century’s Great Tree Experiment. Additionally, you’ll encounter a magnificent grove of towering Sequoia trees, also known as Giant Redwoods.

The multi-access loop is wheelchair and stroller-friendly, catering to people of all ages. Along the route, you’ll find benches where you can take a break and relax. The path passes through certain experimental plots before crossing the Great Ride and returning toward Avondale House.

This path traces the footpath adjacent to the L2149 road, connecting Avondale and Rathdrum in both directions. It provides pedestrian access to the village and the railway station exclusively through footpaths.

The family cycling route uses the forest road network, commencing and concluding near the parking area. During your ride, you’ll come across a brief section with a steep downhill slope. Please exercise caution by either controlling your speed or dismounting and walking your bike through this part. Along the route, you’ll pass through various types of Avondale’s lush forests and catch a glimpse of the treetop walk overhead. Remember to wear your cycling helmet for safety, just as you would on a regular road.
